- 4 1/4 cups sifted flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup lard
- 1 1/2 cups light molasses
- 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
Instructions
- Sift the first six ingredients together. Add the sugar and mix well. Cut in the butter and lard with a pastry blender or two knives.
- Add the molasses and vinegar gradually, mixing thoroughly. Chill dough several hours. Using a small amount of dough at a time, roll out dough about ⅛ in. thick on a floured surface. Cut with fancy cookie cutters.
- Transfer to greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350°F about 10 min. About 6 doz. cookies
