Ingredients

  • 4 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup lard
  • 1 1/2 cups light molasses
  • 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar


Instructions

  1. Sift the first six ingredients together. Add the sugar and mix well. Cut in the butter and lard with a pastry blender or two knives.
  2. Add the molasses and vinegar gradually, mixing thoroughly. Chill dough several hours. Using a small amount of dough at a time, roll out dough about ⅛ in. thick on a floured surface. Cut with fancy cookie cutters.
  3. Transfer to greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350°F about 10 min. About 6 doz. cookies
